Winter high school activities round up
The David Douglas High dance team earned the sixth place spot in the show division. At the Oregon Music Educators Association district competitions, Parkrose High was represented by Dylan Thomas, French horn; Sarah Li, piano; Debra Loh, bassoon; Tom Wolken, trombone; Shannon Webb, French horn; Joseph Stevens, trombone; Marissa Stevens, flute; and Vivian Doan, alto voice. Webb placed fifth; Loh won her competition and will compete at the state competition later this month. David Douglas High cheerleaders earned the fourth place trophy at the OSAA Cheerleading championships in February. Reynolds placed ninth. OSAA Swimming championship trophies went to schools outside the Memo distribution area, but Reynolds junior Christy Vo came in fifth in the girls 50 yard freestyle among 6A swimmers and Christy Hartenstein, a freshman, placed sixth. Vo and Hartenstein teamed with Abby Maricle and Rachel Lorenson to earn the second place trophy in the girls 200 yard freestyle relay and third place in the girls 400 yard freestyle relay. Nikki Overton, a David Douglas junior, placed sixth in girls 200 yard freestyle event and fourth in the 500 yard freestyle. In 5A competition, Jeremy Ibrahim of Parkrose placed sixth in the boys 100 yard backstroke. The boys team was the Northwest Oregon Conference champ. The David Douglas Scots placed ninth at the OSAA 6A State Wrestling championships behind the efforts of Jeremiah Baker, fourth place at 112 pounds; Josh Reyes, sixth at 125 pounds; Nathan Fritz, fourth at 130 pounds; Erick Reyes, fifth at 189 pounds; Cody Patterson, fifth at 215 pounds; Chris McCauley; Gabe Peak; Vagif Afrisov; Dom Netherton; and Elijah Taylor. Parkrose sent Eduardo Gongora, Hans Wolpert, Henry Sexsmith and Quantrel Golden to the 5A wrestling tournament. For the first time the OSAA hosted a girls wrestling tournament. Kyeanna Henry is the state champion in her division; Priscilla Tran finished second in hers. Both girls wrestle for the Broncos. Boys basketball teams from Reynolds and David Douglas qualified for the OSAA Boys Basketball tournament. Reynolds lost to Lincoln in a first round game. The Scots fell to West Linn. Parkrose boys did not qualify for state, but Orlando Vance earned Northwest Oregon Conference first team honors; Armondo Flintroy was named to the second team and Tylor King earned honorable mention. |
