Letters to the editor

The Mid-county Memo is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the attention of the community. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put “Letter to the editor” in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Deadline for the February issue is Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Gardner's comments challenged
To the Editor:
In reference to Mr. Gardner's letter to the editor in the November edition of the Mid-County Memo in which Mr. Gardner accuses the Parkrose School Board and district administration of criminal behavior including stealing and misrepresentation, I would like to say to all of those who would refer to Mr. Gardner as deliberately misinformed, counter productive and unnecessarily antagonistic, that in our free society Mr. Gardner has as much right to misrepresent the facts as any American.

However, I would like to remind Parkrose residents that under the new bond, which Mr. Gardner is so critical of, our community is acquiring a new middle school and renovating all of our elementary schools while at the same time paying less taxes than under the old bond. Lower taxes and new schools will almost certainly increase the desirability of the Parkrose area.

In addition, over the last six years, the performance of the Parkrose school district, from academics to athletics to the arts, has improved in almost every measurable way.

Any reasonable and objective look at the accomplishments of the Parkrose School District over the last six years can only lead to the conclusion that we are moving forward in a way that benefits our children as well as the entire community.

Sincerely,
Guy Crawford
Former Parkrose School Board member
