OCOM names new president
Oregon College of Oriental Medicine welcomes Michael Gaeta, Ed.D., as the fifth president of the college. During an impressive career spanning more than 30 years, Gaeta has been a university academician, health care administrator and corporate team builder. He served as the executive director of Planetree, Inc., a non-profit rganization and division of Griffin Health Services in Derby, Conn., dedicated to personalizing and humanizing health care delivery.

“We are extremely pleased with the result of our collaborative search process,” said Peter Martin, chair of OCOM Board of Trustees. “Gaeta brings a unique set of qualifications and experience that will enhance our mission of quality education and health care integration. The patient-centered model of care and a commitment to the integration of Western medicine and alternative therapies that Planetree represents are directly relevant to the educational goals of our college,” Martin added.
“I feel strongly that my experience in health care administration specifically the implementation of Complementary and Alternative Medicine therapies in various health care settings meets the mission of the college,” said Gaeta. “I look forward with great enthusiasm to serving as president of OCOM and working with their exemplary team in strategically positioning the college for the future.”

Most recently, Gaeta served as vice president of adult services at the Center for Discovery in Harris, N.Y. directing administration and development of the adult program. Prior to his position as executive director at Planetree, Gaeta was assistant to the president at Griffin Health Services, overseeing the complementary medicine and wellness initiatives. Gaeta earned a doctorate in adult and health education from Oregon State University in 1979.

Calvert lives, sells real estate in Gateway
The Memo would like to welcome a relatively new Realtor to our area.

Kris Calvert, who is with Bridgetown Realty, moved to the Gateway area from inner Northeast Portland last fall, along with her husband Steve and son Isaac.

Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Calvert attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, moving to Portland in 1988. She met her future husband in 1996, and the two were married in 2000.

“We moved briefly to Missoula, Mont,” she told the Memo, “which is where Isaac was born, but found that we missed Portland too much and decided to move back.”

For Calvert, “the Gateway area is the perfect place for me to focus my business, as it is dominated by homes built during the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s.

“Being a neighborhood Realtor,” she continued, “means that I really am a neighbor, not just because of the location of my house, but also because I value the community that I live in.”

Calvert’s office is located at 3320 N.E. Sandy Blvd. in Portland, with a telephone number of 503-267-5578.
