Memo Letters...

The Mid-county Memo is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue, or address a concern you want to call to the community’s attention. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson, at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put ‘letter to the editor’ in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Our deadline for the May issue is Monday, April 16.

Portland Christian says thanks!
To the editor:
We at Portland Christian Junior/Senior High School are truly blessed by the generous outpouring of support from our community.

Back in February our boys’ baseball team began a can drive in order to raise funds for our new baseball field that is near completion. The players went door-to-door collecting cans throughout the community.

Five weeks after the launch of the can drive, on the morning of March 17th, thieves broke into the truck at the school and stole nearly 30 bags of cans and bottles (more than half of what was collected).

After televised media reports of the theft the following day, we were inundated with donations of cans and cash from scores of people throughout our community. What a wonderful show of support!

The outpouring of care and concern from the community is overwhelming and has given our players hope and encouragement that their dream field will soon become a reality.

It is such a joy to see the work of God happen right before our very eyes. What was intended for harm, the Lord has used for good.

Again! From all of us at Portland Christian, we say thanks for blessing us. We are truly grateful!

Sincerely,
Dana Larson
Portland Christian Schools Athletic Director

Editors note: At press time the tally of donations was just under $9,000 collected from the donated cans and bottles and nearly $4000 in direct donations mailed to the school.
