On Sunday, Jan. 8, choirs from around the area gathered at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1700 N.E. 132nd Ave., to present the DayBreak Epiphany Choir and Carol Fest. Choirs from Waverly Heights United Church of Christ, St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Parkrose Community United Church of Christ, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Unity Church of Portland, Fremont United Methodist Church and Resurrection Lutheran Church raised their voices to inspire donations in support of the DayBreak Shelter Network. Both the choir and the bell choir of Parkrose United Methodist Church performed as well. The Fest concluded with the combined choirs performing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” A goodwill offering resulted in donations totaling $2200.

DayBreak provides emergency shelter paired with social services to families in the mid and eastern portions of Multnomah County. The program is a collaborative effort between Human Solutions and local churches. Human Solutions provides program administration, case management and family support services, and the churches provide overnight shelter, meals and compassionate support. The emergency family shelter helps families transition to stable housing and employment.

Volunteers are needed to provide transportation between the day center and overnight shelter, for on-call supervision of the day center, to prepare and serve meals, to monitor the facility overnight and to maintain a caring, compassionate environment.

Human Solutions is located at 12350 S.E. Powell Blvd. Call 503-548-0200 to volunteer or to learn more about DayBreak Shelter Network.
