Issues in Focus: Photovoice Project
Available to: Grades 6-8, Teens
When: 7/15 Friday and 7/29 Friday 4-5:30 p.m.
Cost: Free
What: Photovoice is an arts-based technique that combines photography with social action. Taking cameras out into the neighborhood, participants are invited to document their point of view on a central theme in a creative and meaningful way. Photographs will be posted on social media websites as a means of bringing the community together. Under the instruction of artist Anya Hankin, this project will guide teens through a process of artistic self-discovery while teaching them photography and visual art skills, writing techniques and civic engagement practices.
Corn Husk Figurines
Available to: Grades K-12
When: 7/30 Saturday 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Cost: FREE
What: Hands-on workshop explores native Mexican arts and crafts. Participants will construct and decorate their own flowers made of cornhusks.
The Peace of Paper
Available to: Teens and up

Friday Morning Kids

What: A beginning course for young artists to learn to create line form, texture and shadows using charcoal, pencil and markers. Supplies included.
Nature Illustration
Available to: Ages 10 - 16
When: July 14 and 21 and August 4, 11, 18, and 25 Thursdays 2- 4 p.m.
Cost: $22/$18 LGF Members
What: Create a detailed botanical drawing from life using pencil, fine-point drawing pens and any other
preferred media on paper. Supplies included.

Read to the Dogs
Available to: K-12

What: Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from the Delta Society's Pet Partners® Program, sponsored by Dove Lewis.
Build Your Own Terrarium
Available to: Grades K-5
When: August 18 2-3 p.m.
Cost: Free
What: Learn all about taking care of plants and watching them grown inside. Each family will have their own terrarium to take home after class.

Nature Camps

Cost: Day Camp and Teen Explorer Camp $215 weekly, Teen Backpacking Adventures $350-$375
What: Environmental education provided to kids ages 4-12. After 4 years of participation, students qualify for Raven tribe (ages 10-13) to learn survival skills. Teens ages 13-15 can take part in a weeklong backpacking adventure. The Teen Explorer Camp is a day camp specifically designed for teens with special needs that visits different parks throughout the area.

BMX Biking! Street Art Peddling!

What: Learn new moves under safe supervision and coaching to improve your mechanics, balance, riding skills and control. (Offered through Parkrose SUN School; takes place at Glenhaven Park)
Dance - Break Dancing

What: Develop new steps and perfect robotic popping. Build safe habits.
Dance - Hip Hop

What: Emphasize proper technique including isolations, turns, combinations and complete dances. Increase agility and coordination.

What: Explore the beginning and basic movement of this celebratory style of dance.

What: Develop stronger shots, improve timing and game strategies. Build confidence, self-esteem and cardio-vascular health through shooting, dribbling, passing and control drills.
Summer Safari
Available to: Ages 6-12
When: Weekly from 6/20-8/12 Monday through Friday 12:45-3:15 p.m.
Cost: $15 per week
What: Arts, crafts, games, songs, and group exploration.
Summer Swim Lessons
Available to: Preschool to adult
When: 6/20-8/4 Mondays through Thursdays, 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., school age lessons are 45 minutes long
Cost: $40 for 8 lessons (An out-of-district fee of $3.00 per session for each swimmer is charged to those swimmers residing outside the Parkrose School District.) $6 drop-in fee.
What: self-paced swim lessons with experienced instructors.
Tennis Time
Available to: Ages 6-12
When: ONE week 8/1-8/5 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon.
Cost: $25
What: Special drills and games present tennis fundamentals in an enjoyable manner and develop skills in hand-eye coordination, agility, movement, catching, throwing, hitting and balance.
Yoga - Fresh Start
Available to: Ages 14 and up
When: Twice weekly from 6/21-8/25 Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-7 p.m.
Cost: $60 for 20 Classes
What: Improve postures using methods based on focused breathing. Release tension; improve focus and well being while gaining the overall strength, stamina and flexibility.
Zumba Fitness
Available to: Ages 14 and up
When: ONE day weekly from 7/6-9/7 Wednesdays 6:15 p.m.-7:15 p.m.
Cost: $40 for 10 Classes
What: Dance-based fitness with infectious music, easy-to-follow dance moves, and body-beautifying benefits. Routines combine fast and slow rhythms to achieve a balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits.

Dance Camp
Available to: Grades 1-6
When: Two weeks, Monday through Thursday, Camp 1 7/5-7/14 9:15 a.m.-12:40 p.m., Camp 2 8/1-8/11 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Cost: $165
What: Camp featuring ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance that ends in a different production for each camp. Campers make set, costume design, choreography, perform and produce. These camps are for dancers with little or no previous experience.
Rhinoceros Musical Theatre Camp
Available to: Grades 1-6
When: Two weeks 7/18-7/28 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Cost: $165
What: For actors, singers and dancers of all levels to take part in a fun musical theatre production for kids. The production has something for everyone from beginners through accomplished performers.
Wizard of Tap Camp
Available to: Grades 1-6
When: Two weeks 8/1-8/11 9:30a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Cost $165
What: Tap dancing, acting and artwork.
Afternoon Camps:
Adventures, Activities and Arts Camp
Available to: Grades 1-6
When: August 1-4 and August 8-11 1-3 p.m.
Cost: $75 per week or $20 daily drop in with advance reservation
What: Each day is a new theme with dance, music, theatre and art activities.
Lively Arts Camps
Available to: Grades 1-6
When: Two weeks, Music Camp- 7/5-7/14 1-4:25 p.m.; Theater Camp- 7/18-7/28 1-4 p.m.
Cost: $165 per two-week segment
What: The camp is divided into three sections: Visual Art, Music and Theatre. Each section meets for two weeks. Students can take either all six weeks of this camp or any individual session. Mini-performances held at the end of each session.
Workshops
Intermediate/Advanced Summer Dance Workshop
Available to: Grades 5-Adult
When: Weekly from 7/5- 7/22 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Cost: $730 full workshop, $260 per week, $55 per day
An intensive workshop for intermediate and advanced dancers, the workshop will include ballet technique, pointe, variations, character, jazz, modern and special events. Guest instructors will be teaching each week. Dancers may register for the full workshop, by the week, or on a drop-in basis. The schedule of classes is subject to change.
